Beware of forces scheming to exploit the turmoil around Gaza. You’ve likely heard of the Abraham Accords, the historic plan that forged peace and prosperity between Israel and its neighbors. Now, some actors are pushing a deceptive proposal—the Abraham Shield Plan—cloaked in a similar name to confuse and mislead. This is a scheme that threatens hard-won gains.

The Abraham Accords, signed in 2020, are a triumph of pragmatic and realistic diplomacy, delivering benefits for both Israel and its partners. They normalized ties with the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan, driving over $2.5 billion alone in Israel-UAE trade by 2024. Direct flights now connect Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi, while joint ventures in tech, agriculture, and energy thrive. Over 70% of Emiratis view Israel favorably, per 2024 polls. Hence, working together means getting to know each other—overturning antagonistic propaganda. This realistic framework fosters cultural exchange and economic growth, proving peace thrives on mutual gain and cooperation.

The Abraham Shield Plan, on the other hand, is a reckless fantasy that undermines this success. It demands Israel declare victory over Hamas, despite the group’s ongoing threat. This is surely a delusional and dangerous move. It expects Israel to fund and stabilize development in Jordan and Egypt—while demanding minimal commitment from other rich and powerful players. And it neglects to demand that partners deal with anti-Israel propaganda—for example, such propaganda is spread by clerics in Saudi Arabia. Middle Eastern antisemitism was the root cause leading to the horrific October 7 attack—this should not be forgotten when moving forward.

The plan also betrays Prime Minister Netanyahu. Its terms would force his ouster, discarding a leader who for decades has sacrificed much to strengthen Israel—and whose leadership secured the Abraham Accords’ breakthroughs! The Shield Plan is a dangerous scheme put forward by opportunists. Any realistic plan must share responsibilities fairly, yet this scheme piles unbearable costs on Israel and only offers vague promises in return. It could destabilize the region if not refused.
